Dental examination and cleaning
The best way to avoid dental problems such as cavities, gum disease, tooth pain and other emergencies is to have and practice healthy oral hygiene habits. An excellent hygiene routine at home combined with regular dental exams and cleanings at the dentist does more than keep your teeth beautiful and white.
It is the winning formula to prevent cavities and gum disease.
During your dental exam at our clinic, the dentist performs a visual inspection, takes x-rays if necessary, and does an assessment of the condition of your teeth, gums, mucous membranes, occlusion, and the entire mouth in general. This step is painless and crucial for diagnosing any oral problems. Once the exam is complete, we discuss the diagnoses with you and develop a personalized treatment plan together.
During the dental cleaning, the hygienist gently removes plaque and tartar from your teeth using specialized tools. She then proceeds to polish your teeth to remove stains and make your teeth smoother. Finally, she applies fluoride varnish to all of your teeth. This process ensures a clean, fresh smile and prevents dental problems between your visits.
Imagery with intraoral camera
Dr. Feldman and her team are committed to providing you with the highest quality dental care, supported by cutting-edge technology. For many treatments, we use an intraoral camera, slightly larger than a pen, that captures images of the inside of your mouth. This technology allows you to see the state of your oral health in images and makes it easier to understand the problems to be treated. The images are then stored in your digital chart to monitor the progress of your treatment.
The intraoral camera is a valuable tool that helps us plan and carry out treatment more precisely and efficiently.
Digital X-rays
- Digital x-rays are a vital asset within our dental clinic, thanks to its ability to provide an exceptional level of precision and accuracy in the early detection of dental abnormalities or issues. This feat is made possible using a minimal dose of radiation when compared to traditional x-rays, thus guaranteeing the safety and effectiveness of the procedure for our patients. In addition, the images are integrated and archived in our clinic’s computer system, which greatly facilitates access to the data at any time. This functionality is particularly valuable for the long-term follow-up of our patients, allowing us to monitor the evolution of their oral health in a practical and efficient manner..At Montreal Family Dentistry, we are happy to offer you a comfortable and safe dental experience thanks to this cutting-edge technology..

Root canal treatment (endodontics)
Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic treatment, involves the removal of damaged, infected or dead dental pulp. This is followed by a thorough cleaning and disinfection of the canals, and subsequent sealing of the tooth. This procedure is generally necessary when the pulp, the inner part of the tooth, is affected by infection, deep decay or trauma. The last stage of treatment is the final restoration of the tooth, either by a post and/or a crown, or a filling, depending on the case.
Our dental clinic is proud to offer this procedure expertly and comfortably for our patients. We use the latest technological advances to ensure precise and pain-free root canal treatment. Our dentists are dedicated to ensuring your comfort throughout the procedure. We work delicately to eliminate the infection, clean the tooth, and restore it in a way that preserves its functionality and esthetics.
If you are suffering from dental pain or think you need a root canal, our team is here to help you.
Tooth extraction
Tooth extraction is a common dental procedure performed when saving a tooth is not possible or poses a risk to oral health.
It consists of the removal of a tooth from the mouth by regular or surgical extraction, and is generally carried out in the following cases:
- Damaged tooth: When a tooth is severely damaged by decay, fracture or infection and is not restorable or would not have a good prognosis, extraction may be necessary to prevent infection and ensure it does not spread further.
- Orthodontics: Sometimes teeth extractions are recommended to create space in the mouth for orthodontic treatment (tooth alignment).
- Wisdom tooth: Wisdom teeth, often problematic, are frequently extracted to avoid future complications.
A tooth extraction is sometimes unavoidable to ensure your overall oral health.
If you have any doubts about a tooth that may require extraction, do not hesitate to make an appointment with our team. We will assess your situation, discuss your options, and ensure that you receive the best dental care possible.
Gum treatment (periodontics)
Gums can be affected by two main diseases: gingivitis and periodontitis.
Gingivitis is a minor inflammation of the gums, often caused by poor dental hygiene. It can be cured quite easily and is often more or less painless. Common signs of gingivitis include bleeding or tender gums when brushing or flossing.
On the other hand, periodontitis is caused by the presence of bacteria which develop in the periodontal pockets, gradually causing the degradation of the tissues surrounding the tooth. We then observe, among other things, receding gums, the development of periodontal pockets and bone loss. When detected early, periodontitis can be treated successfully, but in advanced stages, treatment can become more complex.
It is imperative to maintain the health of your gums and the surrounding bone in order to keep your teeth as long as possible. This is why, during each routine dental visit at Montreal Family Dentistry, we check the condition of your gums and the bone around your teeth.

Night guards (occlusal plates)
A nightguard (or occlusal plate) is a protective splint that acts as a cushion to counter the harmful effects of bruxism. It is custom made from a thin layer of acrylic plastic or similar material. It is generally worn at night, on the upper or lower jaw.
What are the advantages of the nightguard?
- Promotes relaxation of joints and jaw muscles.
- Protects teeth and jaw bones from possible damage.
- Reduces the harmful effects linked to bruxism and teeth clenching.
The initial adaptation may cause hypersalivation, but this usually goes away after a few days.
The lifespan of the night guards depends on their maintenance and on the severity of the bruxism. Generally, simple brushing under running water, without toothpaste, is sufficient. Periodic checks by a professional guarantee its continued effectiveness and allow possible adjustments to be made.
If you notice signs of bruxism, such as frequent headaches upon waking up, a sore and tense jaw, and increased tooth sensitivity, we invite you to discuss this with your dentist during your next visit to the clinic.
